Alongside his regular 8 to 5 job, Merv dedicates his spare time to MD Electronic Services, a home-based communications and electronics diagnostic and repair service. Situated in Calgary, he operates from this location,  working on equipment from leading manufacturers such as ICOM, Kenwood, Yaseu, and others. MD Electronics is also one of the few remaining shops that specialize in the repair of hybrid tube transceivers and related amateur radio and electronics gear. MD Electronic Services also sells refurbished used transceivers and other gear.
